Trivia Miles privacy policy

The short version

• There are no accounts. You never create one, and we never ask for a name, email address or password.
• Players, scores, history and progress stay on the device. We do not have a copy.
• We never record or upload audio. The microphone is used only while a player is answering, and speech is turned into text on the phone itself.
• Quizzes are written by AI. To make one, the app sends the topic you chose. It does not send who is playing.
• Everything optional is in Settings, behind a parent lock.

What stays on your device

The following never leaves the phone unless you deliberately export it:

• the players you add, including the name and age range you type for each one;
• interests, scores, quiz history, Trivia Miles, streaks and badges;
• quizzes you write yourself;
• your settings.

A parent can save a family backup file from Settings › Family backup. That file is saved wherever you choose, such as Files or iCloud Drive; it is not sent to us. Deleting the app deletes everything the app stored on the device, and a backup file is the only way to get it back.

What the app sends to us

To make a quiz, or to act on something a rider said, the app sends our server:

• the topic, the age range in use, the difficulty and the number of questions;
• a short list of recently used questions, so you do not get the same one twice;
• in hands-free Road Trip mode, the text of what a rider said, after the phone has recognised it, when the request is something the app cannot understand on its own;
• a random installation number and a per-ride session number, which are not linked to any person.

Player names are replaced before anything is sent. In Road Trip the app substitutes “Rider 1”, “Rider 2” and so on, and puts the real names back on the phone.

Our server passes the request to Google’s Gemini models, which write and check the questions. Google processes it under its own terms, as our provider. We do not send Google your players, their names, their ages or their history.

Audio is never sent. Speech recognition happens on the device.

Optional reports you can switch off

Two separate switches in Settings › Privacy & parental controls govern everything else.

Share usage and crash reports — on by default

After a quiz, the app can send what was played: topic, difficulty, mode, number of players, how many questions were answered correctly, and whether each question was answered correctly, with the question’s text. This is how we find questions that are wrong, too hard or too easy. It carries the random installation number. It does not include names, ages, or anything you typed. Crash reports (see below) follow this same switch.

Share app diagnostics — off by default

If a parent turns this on, the app can send a technical log of a Road Trip session so we can find out why voice failed. The log can include what the app heard as text, what it decided and what it said. Saved player names are replaced, but recognised speech may contain other personal information, which is why this is off unless you choose it. It never includes recorded audio. These logs are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Turning either switch off stops those reports immediately.

Crash reports

The app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to report crashes, so we can fix them. A crash report contains technical information about the app and the device, not your content. Crash reporting follows the Share usage and crash reports switch: turning that off turns crash reporting off too.

When you contact us

If you use Report a problem or Report question in the app, we receive what you write and, if you leave the box ticked, a recent technical log. That is the only time we receive free text you have typed. Please do not include personal details in the message.

Children

Trivia Miles is made for families and rated 4+. It has no accounts, no advertising, no social features, no chat with strangers, and no links out to the web for children to follow. A parent can add a child’s first name and age range; both stay on the device. Settings that matter are behind a parent gate.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child’s personal information reached us, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.

How long we keep things

• Voice troubleshooting logs: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
• Anonymous play and question statistics: kept while they are useful for improving the questions; they contain no personal information.
• Messages you send us: kept while we work on the problem.

Sharing

We do not sell data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use these providers to run the app: Google Cloud (our server and storage), Google Gemini (writing and checking questions), Google Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports) and Apple (the App Store and TestFlight).

Your choices

• Turn off either reporting switch in Settings › Privacy & parental controls.
• Turn on Offline mode to stop the app using the internet at all. The built-in topics still play.
• Delete the app to delete everything it stored on the device.
• Write to [email protected] to ask what we hold, or to ask us to delete it. Because reports carry only a random installation number and nothing that identifies you, the surest way to reach the right records is to send the request from the app itself (Settings › Help & support › Report a problem), which attaches that number for us. By email, please tell us the app version and roughly when you last played.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be described in the app’s release notes.
